Eat at Jo’s + Eikaiwa

Ah ha! I had just enough time this morning to pull together a very brief entry on my Monday and Tuesday nights. Monday was spent lounging about eating food at Jo’s kitchen, Sarasaya. He regularly cooks for the Wellness College Dorm next door, and for people who stay in his Ryokan too. (That can add up to be a lot.) Anyway, he invites me to come over for a bite once in a while, and I try to take him up on it when my schedule permits. He made me some excellent grub this time around, as expected. Yum. You can see pictures of all of the goodness below, minus the sashimi. I wish I’d gotten a picture of that for you too, because Jo made his own dipping sauce, and I admit, I like it a lot better than wasabijyoyu. I bumped into one of my kids while eating. That was kinda funny. She’s a second year student at Hakata High School, who apparently helps Jo out as a part time job. It was cool. She took a picture of me and Jo on my cell phone. (I gotta figure out how to transfer pictures without sending them, because it’s rather expensive to do so.) Anyway, that’s that. Good times. We even played a typical boy game of “hey, let’s see if we can knock small things over from far away with a rubber band” after he claimed to be able to knock flies out of the air. I believe him. He’s scary good.

The other pictures are from Eikaiwa, or adult English conversation class. Will teaches it every week, and since I was ::gasp:: actually free this week, I went with. It was hilarious. I just did an alternative, speedier, worksheetless version of my introduction routine. (I am a pro, as most JETs are by the end of 6 months straight.) It went really well, I think. Some of the students had seen me around before. Mimi, who took me and Will shopping, was there. So was Mrs. Matsumoto, the lady who had me and Will over for sukiyaki. I went by and saw them recently, and it was nice. I hope to do some more stuff with them soon. I also finally met Aileen’s nurse friend. We made a decision to go to karaoke or some kind of goofball outing when the three of us are in Imabari at the same time. I look forward to it. Oh – and this isn’t really chronological, but I bumped into 2 of the girls from class again with Will at the Italian restaurant down the street from me just last night. (I know, an ITALIAN PLACE? Down the street from me? I would never kid about things like that. Never. Mmmm. More on that later.)

That’s all for today, folks. Depending on when I get back from Imabari, I may be able to get another entry out on Sunday night. But no promises. Ha ha. It has been a good week.
