Upgrade

In case you’ve noticed strange site behavior for the last couple of hours, I wanted to let you know that I’ve just updated to WordPress 2.2. I’ll likely upgrade to the newest version of my theme soon, as well. Pardon any hiccups until I’m done rearranging. :-) Thanks.

  • Yeah, apparently the WordPress guys have taken the Ubuntu ideology to heart and plan on rolling out regular releases on a schedule of sorts. I think that's cool for some reasons, but I really don't like the Microsoft-esque method of letting your consumer base sort the bugs out for you. Don't get me wrong, WordPress rocks - but version 2.2 seems like a bump for me. I dunno.
  • I finally get onto wordpress and they go and upgrade the day after. Bastards.

Anyway, thanks for the warning. Won't be bothering with that for a long-ass time.
  • I also advise people to hold off on upgrading to Wordpress 2.2. It has totally screwed up my blogroll settings, and you lose a lot of category / sorting functionality by upgrading. I can no longer control the order of the link categories, nor the display order inside the categories. Therefore, everything is set up by length of time visible, then alphabetically in subdivisions. Color me annoyed. I'm working on resolving this issue. But it'll probably have to wait a few weeks. Until then, at least I got the links displaying at all again. Sheesh. Pain in the BUTT. Alex got the worst of it, though.
  • Whoa Alex! Didn't you backup everything before attempting the upgrade? Your database should still be fine, man. I'm pretty sure you don't need to delete them all. What a major pain in the butt. I really really hope that you don't have to nuke the whole shebang like that. Awful. :-(
  • geeze Alex, that would be a waste. Are they legible when you edit them? Save and repost?
  • I've pretty much given up all hope and I'm taking the drastic measure of deleting every post with Japanese in it from my blog and starting from the beginning. All of my other posts in English will remain. Wordpress is my Lex Luther.
  • My biggest problems come from the upgraded theme that I've installed. I might roll it back to the last version until I can settle it. Tons of stuff has been PHP-ified and I don't understand the queries. I'm a total newbie at this stuff. I'll let you know. And my old Japanese text seems to be fine. As for the new stuff, let's try it out: 日本語が使えるよ。よかった! If that is legible, then it works. :-)

Afterthought - I think mine is set to auto-detect Shift-JIS coding, not unicode UTF-8...but I wouldn't know how to change it if I wanted to...hmmm...
  • I just installed the upgrade, too, but now all of my Japanese text is messed up. Did you have this problem too?!

All of my encodings are set for utf-8, but they are garbled text....
