English Entertainment

Hey guys, I am back from Kobe. Promise. I’m just playing catchup. I should be regularly posting again shortly. I took a week off, and man did I need it. I decided to sleep without an alarm on Friday night. I woke up at 3 PM on Saturday. Yeah… I guess I needed the sleep! Anyway, while I’ve been catching up (and not blogging), I’ve used the time to catch up on some English language entertainment. Surprisingly, the last 3 episodes of 24 are still sitting unwatched in my iTunes downloads. Gotta get on that. In the meantime, let me mumble about what I have watched.

First, I caught up on CSI thanks to my sister. She started commenting about some plot turns that I didn’t understand, so I decided to look it up. Turns out I was 2 seasons behind! I have now seen seasons 6 and 7, and I am up to date. My twin is quite frustrated with the closing of season 7. I actually enjoyed it, because this last season rescued the show from a rut in my opinion. They got a new hook, ran with it, and took it to a cliffhanger. If you haven’t seen it and want to see it, do not read the next sentence. They have a tradition of hanging the show on a single character. They did it to Nick when he was kidnapped. They’ve done it to others. This time it’s just Sarah’s turn. I hope we’ve not seen the end of the miniature killer, though. It was a cool plot thread. You may read again, because the spoilers are over.

Then, I finally watched Hot Fuzz thanks to Aileen. It was AWESOMENESS. If you liked the goofball film Shaun of the Dead, then you’ll love this one too. Silly British humor at its best. Though, I’m not gonna lie…the films resemble one another in more than one way. Mobs. Running. Ridiculous amounts of ammo. It was great. I highly recommend it.

I also finished Dune (great book, and way better than the movie or miniseries) and brought back 1000 pages of English reading from a blessed bookstore in Kobe. Anyhoo, that’s all for now, folks. Rest assured that I’ve got more in the hopper coming your way.

(I’ll finish 24, too, but probably won’t post about it. This stuff has nothing to do with Japan…)

  • I don't really care about the love interest stuff. Call me a typical boy or whatnot if you want, but it's true. For me, the appealing part is the mystery and the tech. These little soap opera episodic sagas need to stop in my opinion. (Greg's mobbing / excused manslaughter / private court case stuff = cheap ratings through race baiting, department politics, etc.)

By the way, it is official: this season of 24 really sucked. It just didn't live up to the past seasons. Maybe they wanted to make next season look more exciting by retro-comparison. I dunno. What I do know is that I was royally disappointed. (I have the same problem with this show - little side stories got LAME this season - drunken recovering alcoholic Morris? Who cares?! A NUCLEAR BOMB WENT OFF. Ha ha. I mean, seriously, though.)

They need to stick to the mystery, to the action, and to the stuff that made their shows great in the first place. :-)
  • Frustrated...
yes. yes I am frustrated--but not necessarily with the ending per se...more with what the possibility of next season's opener could be. I'm in a position where I could be turned off the show, or be perfectly happy. I think I read somewhere that we haven't seen the last of Natalie...
glad you caught up on things though.

    HEROES IS THE AWESOMEEE!!!111

I never thought I'd be such an advocate of a show that promotes a catch phrase like, "save the cheerleader, save the world," but "This is how we roll"
  • Nikki - nice Friends reference, there. I just posted about my new Friends friend. I have no clue and have heard nothing about Kochi, though. Just so you know.

Scott, CONGRATULATIONS! I'm really proud of you guys. What are your plans now? Yeah...loads of people are addicted to Heroes now. Craziness, indeed. :-)

Heh, I got back into 24 this past year thanks to my roomates. I was into it back in the 2nd season (senior year of HS) but got out of it when Furman craziness started. But I recently caught up on the 3rd, 4th and 5th season just before the 6th season started.

I've also gotten into watching Heroes... I started watching that right after my last final (I know Emily Bucharati is obsessed with it, dunno, Kathy might be too).

BTW, I'm now a college graduate! :-D Pics areup on facebook.
  • Supposebly some sort of beach party. Possibly.

Supposebly? Did I just say supposebly? "Did they go to the zoo?... supposebly..."

However, if it's raining then I won't be going. Still waiting on details however.
  • No...what's up in Kochi? Can't say either way yet. But....what is it?
  • ahhh and back to the island.

i have yet to see hot fuzz. *adds that to infinitely long list of movies*

have you heard about this so-called event in Kochi next weekend? shall you attend?
