Revealing

You guys know how comments on the big Web 2.0 sites work. YouTube, Digg, etc. Things quickly descend into anatomy jokes, chain letters adopted for posts, flame wars, spoilers about the most recent Harry Potter book, name calling, finger pointing, and making huge gross sweeping generalizations. In short, it’s hilarious. In a sad way. But it does give you some perspective. Here’s a gem of a back and forth (cut and pasted for continuity) that just struck me as particularly revealing. Enjoy.

  • Alex - you pretty much nailed it, minus maybe 2 things. A hearty "WTF" or "STFU" from someone who doesn't get the acronym and maybe a nice "FAKE" on a non-spectacular video. You know. Can't think of any other at the moment, but I'm sure I'll remember more later. Feel free to add. Ha ha.

Chuck - Nice L337 5K1LL2. I doubt that the suicide rate bumps so much. The suicide rate in Japan is kind of mythical in the first place - you should check out this special edition of Trans-Pacific Radio - TPR Spotlight: Suicide in Japan by the Numbers. Really interesting stuff. ;-) Also, PWN3D! :-P

Hey now, you leave my hamster mother out of this.

That was a nice classic comment fest. Now if only your readers could be as witty and insightful as those incredible 1n73rn37 G33k5.

PS - Is it raining where you are too, yes? Shocking. I'm going to go ahead and guess the suicide rate in Japan goes up a couple dozen percentages during this lovely wet spell that we're having.
  • I'll give you a tiny godzilla!! If you don't forward this to 10 people god will smite you. Learn2play! Dumbledore is really Lord Voldemort! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries! Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar, DEAS?! White people are racist.

Whew. I think I've just about covered all of the bases.
