Binoculars

I’m at Nishi today. It started raining the moment I stepped foot off the boat. Gotta love that. Anyway, just thought I’d jot a few thoughts down.

1) The teachers use binoculars in the staff room to read the 8 full-sized whiteboards that have all of the schedules, changes, special events, etc. I love that. You can tell when classes are going to begin, because the not-so-subtle spies begin resheathing their binoculars. Nice. I kinda want a telescope and eyepatch. You know, to put a personal twist on it and yet still belong. :-)

2) I am finally drinking the Heroes koolaid. It’s all your fault(s). Expect an entry within a week about the use of Japanese. I’m quite bemused by it.

3) I have a whopping ¥710 on me. People who live in Japan know how close I’m cutting it here. I will have to make it to an ATM today, obviously. It will involve walking through the rain. But hey, my 6th period class got cut due to tests, and I could mosey on over to have some Mexipan food.

4) Speaking of which, I took Will to the Mexipan place two weeks ago. He rather liked it, though I don’t know if he liked the idea that I knew of a place he didn’t know about. Also, we ate at Jo’s place on Friday night, and Jo had recently been to the same place, too. I suggested it. I’m telling you guys, it’s good. You just need to walk in with the proper expectations. Can’t think “mmmm – chicken fajitas and queso.” Instead, try thinking “pumpkin tacos and smiley potatoes!” Yum.

And so works my brain today. Can’t help it.

Well not for the job i just interviewed for in Columbia... they said my list of credentials are impressive and I'm very talented...just decided to go with someone else. The job at Furman they did say that they decided to go with someone with "more higher ed experience" (which, apparently there were quite a few people who listed me as their first choice, but ultimately the decision rested with the CIO).
  • Scott - I want to include a video clip with it, so it might take a few days to prepare. I don't know if it will make any sense, but it'll be interesting. (For me alone, if for no one else.)

That sucks with the interviews. Did they give you any feedback about why you were turned down? Filled positions? Under or over-qualified status? You need to be able to breathe fire? :-) I'm sorry. But you'll get one - though I don't guarantee that it'll be one you'll like.

Yay Heroes! Haha. I'm looking forward to your post on language. I've been curious about your thoughts on that.

So far no luck in the job search. Two interviews, two rejections.
  • I think I'm gonna do a quick write-up on my thoughts for the overall show before I do the language thing. But look for it. Eventually. I'd like to make a video to go with it, but I barely have the time to write anything lately. Soon, I hope. Soon.

Mwahahahahaha you succumbed to the Heroes love :) And yes the Japanese is fun/funny. I can't wait for your entry on it!
  • Bo, you gotta let me poke fun before getting upset about it. It's the rule. Sheesh. And I never said I'd be mean about it - that's what Clay's job is. I'll give it a fair shake - and for good measure, I'll throw some reverse examples in. Japanese shows with English. Maybe. Depends on how much time I have on my hands. But don't worry - I quite like the show. That's why I'm drinking the koolaid after all. ;-)

Deas, if you mock Heroes, I will disown you. I freaking love that show, and no I don't care if they aren't perfect in thier Japanese. Its awesome, and you are a poophead. So THERE! HA!
  • Ha ha - and in comes Clay, swinging. Ha ha. I'd like to read that entry, actually. Did you write it already, or are you speaking figuratively? You'd pull a giggle from me - after all, I never killed you after your assault on the other stuff. :-P Ha ha ha.
  • It is one of the sillier entries in my "everything we love is stupid" theory, heroes is.
  • Alex - that's pretty much where I'm going with it. Wanna double team that entry? It could be fuuuun..... If not, I have no problem humiliating myself by, err, myself. But let me know if you're game for poking at the whole thing. It's fascinating to me. And I'm not finished yet, but I agree - it's not as bad as I figured it'd be.
  • Heroes was better than I expected. Hiro's friend, although Korean, does pretty well at speaking Japanese (better than the white people on the show who try to speak Japanese, at least).
