Last year I remember coming off of an insane party week, and heading into Imabari where I had a great time at Aileen’s with the others who stayed behind. We had a Christmas Dinner Party that was loads of fun. A day or so later, Luke King and I took off for Kyoto – where we spent the New Year’s holiday and the rest of our Whirlwind Winter Break. This year I hope that our first years can do something fun while so many of the second years head home. I’ve heard rumblings of a sweet Philippines trip from Hong and Melanie that I wish I could join – but I’m far more excited about seeing Charleston at the moment. I bet money that there are groups going to Thailand, Cambodia, and India again too. If you’re a first year, don’t just sit around by yourself at Christmas (which is totally possible) – get out and have some fun. Otherwise you’ll find yourself depressed. Anyway – enough with the guidance counselor act – I’ll be in Chucktown. Can’t wait for it. :-) It’s been a year and a half.

Side note: guess this means I’ll be fingerprinted and photographed like the incredibly dangerous foreigner that the government fears I might be (but am not). Sigh.

Hehe. Well as long as I'm welcome, and don't have to get up freakishly early the next morning, I'd love to!
  • Hey Scott - no worries, dude. You're under no obligations here, buddy. Ha ha. Actually, same goes for the airport. I'm getting in at almost midnight...so...I'll let you make that call. :-P
  • Scott
Hey! Sorry I haven't poked in for a while. Your old site design was doing a number on the old crappy slow computer I'm having to use until I can get a new one, and I was resorting to reading on Facebook where I can't comment where you can see as easily.

But that is AWESOME! I'm so kidnapping you at some point while you're home, though I'm sure you'll have all sorts of crazies vying for your time. If I can maybe I'll try to catch ya at the airport... we'll see :-D
  • I'm excited that I'm coming home! Don't worry about it. :-)
  • Mom
We are soooo excited that you are coming home for Christmas!
Someone will meet you at the airport, of course.
And we will laugh and enjoy the holidays...and when it's time to say goodbye, we will not give in to the bad feelings. We will keep it happy ! Maybe Uncle Bob will come along to keep us laughing at the airport. Don't waste time dreading the goodbyes..Look forward to the 3 weeks! Can't wait to hug you, if Bonnie doesn't knock me down trying to get to you first!
  • James - ah, you went right to the source, then. I went through a middleman (well, company, but same thing). Ha ha. Wish I was flying with a Japanese airline. The courtesy (even when feigned) is really appreciated. The American airlines come off as almost abrasive in comparison sometimes. Le sigh.

Michaels - Thanks for the kind comment, and welcome to the site! I am indeed looking forward to the visit home. And you're right - the 6th will be the worst day I'll have all year next year, probably. Leaving always stings.
  • Michaels
So, your looking forward to it then. Not the flights, the going home part I mean. ;)

Just be careful when it comes to saying your goodbyes on the 6th - its that that tugs on the old heart strings. Gets you EVERY time.

BTW, cool blog, nice to see one thats updated most days. Keep it up.

The afternoon flight from Narita is a UA/ANA flight operated by United Airlines, but the morning flight I booked through ANA's homepage is an ANA operated flight, according to their website.
  • James - I had the exact same thought and was getting ANA tickets when I discovered in the small print that the flights were physically the same as the UA ones. It's "operated by" which basically means it is UA. So I decided to take a 300 buck price cut and just pay for the flights I'm taking anyway. No use in paying for the name of the airline I wish I was flying with. :-/ My favorite is JAL...when someone else is paying...hahaha. At least I avoided Northwestern, though. I despise them with some serious venom. Grrr.
  • James
I usually take a United Airlines flight from Narita to Dulles when I head home, but this year I've decided to go with ANA instead. I'm pretty fed up with UA's horrible service and conditions and I hope that a Japanese airline might be a little better... [ANA is also a member of the star alliance, so mileage can be credited to UA]
