There are seemingly many "weird" combinations out there and I will try this one. My family has salted watermelons my entire life. I don't know if I could trace the lineage of salty watermelons in my family but it might be an interesting but completely pointless exercise.

Rice...the water of food. I like it too. But I also enjoy some zing and pizazz once in awhile. ;-)

As some one who can be quite boring with my food, I can understand what you are saying. But I'll skip the coffee and spices (I told you I was boring. I'm not sure how I'm going to survive in Japan. I'll probably just live off rice)

A quite simple comparison would be how many Japanese enjoy salting their watermelons. Contrast in flavors excites the tongue. Similarly, in Mexico (and perhaps many other Hispanic countries) they enjoy a chilli pepper-salt (I think a mix of cayenne pepper) on their watermelons.

I've never tried Tobasco in my hot chocolate, but you've introduced it to me at the perfect time; just as the cold in the air settles in.

Oooh...cayenne pepper? That sounds like an experiment that I need to try... Maybe both. Oh, and I also add a small pinch of salt to my cocoa. Forgot to add that above, even after I mentioned salt in the entry. Good call on the cayenne, though. I'll give it a go.

Never crossed my mind to do tabasco, cause I don't like it except on pizza. However, I do often drink hot cocoa with cayenne pepper. Also, two chopsticks are excellent for stirring it up; they get the stingy choco-slime off the sides and bottom.
