Back in Japan

January 9th, 2008

Hey there folks – I’m back on my island. And man did I hit the ground running. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some good posts up soon, but I got back yesterday morning and did a half-day at work. Full day today, and then my insane January school visitation schedule starts up and I become another English speaking nomad for a while. Then there’s the midyear conference, at which I’ll be doing a talk on Motivation. (HA!) Should be a scary, sparking, downhill, breakneck slide through the month. Stick with me. And hope that there are no splinters. Being in America for winter vacation was amazing, and just what I needed. Having said that, though, it’s good to be back. :-D

  • Michaels - Yup, that's about the size of it. Approximately 41 hours after leaving home I was sitting in my chair in the office at my base school, with my right leg nearly on fire from the nearby kerosene heater and my left leg almost numb from the cold. Kinda makes you have to pee, too, come to think of it.

Mr. Mangum - Thanks for the well wishing. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmastime even without Will there. You're right - he seems to really enjoy Japan. You might need a crowbar to pry him away eventually. (I can help!) He's been a real help lately, what with the weird stuff going on. We keep each other sane. :-) Or close. Tell Ben I said hi and congratulations on the job when he gets it. I'm sure he's overqualified. I mean, how much harder could it be than teaching a bunch of crazy little kids about art through the language barrier?

Glad you made it home for the holidays. Wish Will could have made it. Hope you have a great 2008. I think Will has signed up for another year. I don't think the guy is coming back anytime soon. Ben has applied for a job at Midland College as a Multimedia Developer, so we hope that comes through. Keep up the good work on the blog.

Let me get this straight, you did 39 hours and 15 minutes of travel to get home and then went straight to work? Your either one of those annoyingly over-enthusiastic people, hard up for cash, or an idiot. Haha. I bet you missed me... :P
  • Alex - I am Deas' American appetite, and I am very sad that Deas has returned to Japan. I hope to receive care packages containing ingredients that are unavailable (real bacon) or sadly deficient here (peanut butter...ugh...). :-)

Jessie - I can't tell you how nice it was to hang out with you. We should be in the same country more often. You know? I look forward to the next time we can bump into each other again.
  • It was great to have you back, if only for a couple of weeks. :)
  • I am Alex's American appetite. I crave the food that I assume Deas was stuffed to the brim with in the States.
