Trip Planning

February 4th, 2008

Anyone with information on Malaysia and / or Brunei, hit me. I’ve gone to most of the major government sponsored and private tourism sites, tapped a friend or two for info, and am now in the middle of the research. Looks like a week to a week and a half trip upcoming, end of March and into April. Anyone got any “definite do” or “don’t miss” type things? Anybody got any “stay as far away as possible from” or “lousier than expected” or “avoid at all cost” type things? Any advice about transport? (I’m especially curious about road and boat transport in Peninsular Malaysia – or West Malaysia, whichever, same thing.) Any advice on non-Mutiara lodgings near the Taman Negara rainforest area? On the Borneo side of things – any advice on transport between Brunei and Sarawak or Sabah? (Sabah seems to be easier to fly out of, with more to do…?) Show me some love. :-)

  • Luke & Hector - thanks for your kind offers, but it seems that I'll have to miss out on Borneo this time around and hit Singapore instead. Hector, I may email you anyway about transportation inside mainland Malaysia, though. ;-)

    Deas,

I spent about two weeks in Malaysia, the majority of that being in very rural Borneo, in the summer of 2002.
I've forgotten most of the specifics, but I can certainly offer some funny anecdotes if you're interested.
