I feel like the problem you described is a problem for everything. Tests set
up a plateau that we'll accept. It creates a point where you feel like the
outside world has judged that “this is enough.” So it's natural to stop
studying, content with your progress up to that point. Thing is, if you are
really interested in learning something you'll start up again yourself after
a dry spell. At least, that's how I work.
