Sumo Vids

March 20th, 2008

This video clip features 2 lower rank sumo matches. The first one is pretty much the standard type of bout – it’s quick and it proceeds to the next match pretty seamlessly. The second one is a really long bout where both wrestlers apparently exhaust themselves. No worries, there are some extra skin folds revealed, but no naughty bits. Screened for your safety. Ha ha. Anyway, this is what the early afternoon looks like.

Here’s a quick montage including part of the entrance ceremony, a match with Yokozuna Asashoryu, part of the closing ceremony, and a slow motion recap. I hope you enjoy the videos! (I’m working on uploading a higher resolution flash video for those who are interested.)

*UPDATE* Here are the same videos, but in their original 640 x 480 resolution! Tell me if you like this, and I might try to continue it. ;-) Just click, and they should open up just like the big versions of pictures do when you click on a thumbnail, floating over the rest of the page.

  • The dramatic music at the end? That's John Williams' Olympic Fanfare, I believe. And that thing he grabs is a stack of monetary winnings, yes. But not many people try to mug sumo wrestlers - let alone the top wrestler who probably has a goon squad, so I think he's cool with carrying it on him.
  • fantastic!

what is that thing that he grabs off the official in the second video? money? winnings? block of fish?

    I like the dramatic music.
