Olympic Chips

August 29th, 2008

Since the Olympics are over, I figure I should probably get this post out of the way. I laughed when I saw this blatantly gimmicky play by Calbee just before the Beijing Olympics got started. You can eat your way to Olympic glory! The sparkly bags are a nice touch, too. Gold chips are curry flavored. Silver are cream cheese flavored (gag me). Bronze are flavored like teriyaki. Gold and bronze are obviously the way to go. I would recommend a rethought silver by the next Olympic games, though, Calbee. Seriously. Ugh.

  • Feitclub - While it's true that I'm slow to warm to any faux cheese flavored product, I am especially disgusted by these chips. These chips in particular were...nasty. All kinds of nasty. But good luck finding them near Osaka.

AST - Hey! A DennisMillerRadio.com buddy! Thanks for all of the posts you've made in the Word of the Day thread, too. It's great to have another wordy on board. :-) And welcome to my blog as well.

Tom - cream cheese potato chips = crunchy death in your mouth.

Tracked you down from DennisMillerRadio.com. It's so cool that you're in Japan. I have a cousin who went on an LDS mission there and basically went native. He's been married, twice, to Japanese women.

If I were younger, I'd try learning the language. No wonder you're so good with the vocabulary words. I've known all but lagniappe, which I had seen before, but had misremembered the definition.

As for the CalBee crackers, I could probably eat the cream cheese ones as long as they aren't made of soy. I know I should like it, but I've never gotten over associating soy with animal feed.
  • I'm confused. Are you saying you don't like cream cheese? It goes with everything, like mayo or sour cream! There's something about white foods that make them extremely versatile.

I haven't seen these at all in the Osaka area. I hope I didn't miss my window for Olympic chips. I'm not waiting until 2010.
