Hakata Hello Kitty

September 1st, 2008

Check it out! I found a special Hakata Salt version of the classic Hello Kitty cellular phone charm. The first one I bought for my phone this time around in Japan was an Ehime Iyokan Kitty. (An iyokan is like a mikan. It’s a type of mandarin orange that’s famous locally.) It really doesn’t get much more localized than this. Neat, huh? Now if only they sold it ON my island. You see, I bought it in a Sanrio gift shop in Tokyo’s Ginza. What gives? :-)

  • Ha ha ha ha - that is classic! This was at Sanwa, I presume? I'll have to go there and take a look. Did you ask the folks there? If not, I'm gonna steal the absurd joke-question and ask them myself. :-) Maybe ask if they also have 塩らめん available in the「おいしく減塩」variety...which would just make it regular ramen, I suppose. Ha ha.
  • Speaking of 伯方の塩, when I stopped at Hakata and ate at a ramen place a guidebook recommended, there was 塩ダレ for my gyōza. That's all fine and good. But it said 「おいしく減塩」 on the bottle. So what does that make it? Just タレ?
