Survivor Bio Chuckle

December 22nd, 2008

Hey, check this out. It’s the profile of Ken Hoang, Survivor: Gabon contestant.

Yes, it really says: “Nobody would look at him and believe he climbed Mt. Fuji at the age of 20.” *snort*

…..BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

For those who are lost…while it’s pretty dadgum steep at times, Mt. Fuji is nowhere near Everest or K2 in difficulty or prestige. At all. TV personalities do it. Children do it. My friends do it hilariously. Really really old people do it. Ken, I’m sorry, but…seriously? WHY would nobody believe that he did it when he was 20?

*Disclaimer: I haven’t watched Survivor since the first or second season, so I don’t know this guy or this season’s drama. Can’t comment on it. This was brought to my attention by an avid fan of the show who will probably claim credit in the comments.

This was auto-posted. Deas is trying not to be eaten by sharks while learning how to scuba dive in the Philippines right now. He’ll be back in January.

  • Ellie - sorry, your comment was caught in the spam filter until I could free it! You're absolutely right, though - if he took a car or a bus up to the 5th, it lessens the impact even more!

Alex - I ate so many mangoes, I became worried that I dispersed mango-scents into the water...but luckily for me the only fish that showed any interest were remoras. (They freaked me out the first time though. Something about a fish with such an intense interest in getting close to you....sets off all kinds of fight-or-flight alarms in your head...yikes.)
  • I distinctly remember, as I nearly skipped up the slope of Mt. Fuji, passing by 6-year-old children and 70-year-old grandmas smiling away on their trek up the mountain. From level 5 to the peak, you can make it up and back down in 6 to 8 hours.

If he trekked up Fuji from level 1 to the top in the dead of winter, then I'd be impressed.

Oh, and don't worry about the sharks in the Philippines - They only eat you if you look like a mango.

The question is: Did he do it from the 5th station or from the very bottom? There is a difference. ;-)

But agreed. Mt. Fuji is in no way, shape, or form Everest.
